Brown’s head brewer, Peter Martin has been brewing Brown’s award winning Ales & Lagers for the past fifteen years. Peter has recently been busy with our new bottling line, procuring hops during a worldwide shortage and out fitting an old factory to house our future production brewery on the Walloomsac River in Hoosick. Peter is responsible for production of over eleven different Brown’s Beers. From tank to tap, whether it’s Brown’s flagship Pale Ale or World Beer Cup Gold Winner Oatmeal Stout, Peter is a hands on Brewer. When not in the brewhouse, Peter is appreciating the outdoors fishing, chiseling a timberframe or spending time with his two daughters out and around his home in Hoosick, NY.
Brown's Brewing Company
Dependable Ales & Lagers since 1993
In 1990, Garrett Brown tapped into the city of Troy's rich brewing history when he purchased an old dilapidated 19th century factory building with the hope of renewing a part of Troy that no longer existed.
Three years later, February 1993, the doors opened and once again there was fresh hand-crafted beer flowing -- not only for Trojans, but for beer lovers throughout the Capital Region.
Through the years, the name has changed but our commitment to producing the best beers is stronger than ever. Our Brewery is the heart of our building, the heart of what we do.
Peter Martin, head brewer at Brown's oversees production of over eleven varieties of Brown's hand-crafted ales & lagers.
Peter is passionate about the Brown's ales & lagers he creates. Each winter, he cuts down a Beechwood tree to smoke a portion of the grain bill for the annual production of Brown's Rauch Bier, a traditional German recipe.
The picture to the right shows Peter hand picking hops from a local organic farmer for the production of Brown's New York Harvest India Pale Ale.
Want to learn more about our brewing process straight from the source? Peter is also available to customers for brewery tours, but please call ahead - he's a busy guy. Glass windows at bar level allow visitors to sneak a peek at the brewing process throughout the week. "Brew Day" in our photo gallery gives a glimse of the not-so-glamorous life of our brewers.
Brown's Brewing Company continues to grow... In 2007, we expanded production to bottles for local distribution. Now, Brown's Pale Ale, Brown's Oatmeal Stout (2004 World Beer Cup Gold Medal Winner!) and Brown's India Pale Ale are available as 12oz. six-packs. Pick some up at beverage centers and specialty stores in and around the Capital District.
Thanks to all of the supporters of our brand, we started renovation of a vacant factory mill in North Hoosick, New York, along the Walloomsac River. Please check back, we will continue to update you on our progress.
Cheers!
