Chef Luca, Welcome to Brown's...Tell us about how you became interested in the culinary arts? " I was ten years old and started making meals for my family after my Mom's illness, out of neccessity, but I knew right away that I enjoyed cooking. That was the beginning."How did your cooking evolve? "I graduated in '96 from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and later studied under Dale Miller whom I give credit for much of my hands on experience. Dale is both a teacher as well as a giving and caring individual."Luca Brunelle - a bit Italian, is Italian food your specialty? "Luca is the name my college friends gave me, after Luca Brasi from the movie, "The Godfather." Luca stuck but my real name is Derek, my girlfriend, Stacy is the only one that calls me Derek."What can customers expect to see in your dishes? "I'm very excited to initially introduce new menu items on our special board using ingredients in season and local whenever I can."On your days off how do you relax? "Spending time with my seven year old daughter Sage, (named after the herb) and Stacy is always the best. We enjoy traveling, cooking and exercising together."
